It is important to implement proper swimming pool safety standards to ensure everyone’s safety – all the time. Swimming is a very nice, relaxing activity but can be a dangerous one if safety precautions aren’t put in place.

Here are 10 water safety tips to keep you and your kids safe in and around the pool.

1. Do not run around the pool.

Running around the pool is a BIG NO. Make sure to teach kids before they start swimming and playing around the pool. The swimming area and its surroundings will always be slippery thus, making sure that everyone is aware not to run around the pool is one of the best ways to prevent accidents. Large, clear signs are a big help too.

2. Always lock your gate.

“Unwanted guests” or strangers can enter your vicinity if you don’t lock your gate. During summertime, everyone wants to dip into pools or beaches and sometimes you can’t control strangers diving to your pool without permission.

3. Kids should never swim alone.

Needless to say, it is unsafe to leave your kids swimming alone in the pool. Floaters are not a guarantee for their safety so make sure to have someone accompany them every time they go swimming.

4. No diving!

The kids might not like it, but it could help avoid a serious head or neck injury.

5. Keep a first aid kit close.

8. Proper lighting is vital

9. Avoid swimming during summer storms.

Lightening and water do not mix. Be sure to clear the swimming pool of all swimmers as soon as the sky shows signs of a summer storm.

10. Do not drink and swim!

Alcohol and water are a lethal combination. If you have had any alcohol, avoid swimming. Adults should also take precautions to avoid bringing alcoholic beverages into the immediate area of the pool.
